Shubman Gill, a right-handed opening batsman for Punjab in domestic cricket, was born on September 8, 1999, and currently represents India in international cricket. He served as the India U-19 team’s second captain during the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
In late 2017, he made his List-A debut against Vidharbha, first-class debut for Punjab against Bengal in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, and List-A debut against Services. He scored a half-century in the first game and 129 runs in the subsequent match. In January 2019, he made his international debut for the Indian cricket team.
He was chosen to serve as the vice-captain of India’s Under-19 team at the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Shubman Gill was named the Player of the Tournament after amassing 372 runs at an average of 124.00 while batting third and contributing significantly to India’s record-tying fourth global championship. Batting legends like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly praised his game-winning 102 not out against Pakistan U-19 in the semi-final.
Shubman Gill was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 and made valuable contributions in both his debut season and the 2019 season. He was retained by the KKR team management, who saw tremendous batting potential in him and even named him to their core leadership group. However, KKR released him ahead of the 2022 TATA IPL Auction. Gujarat Titans pounced on this opportunity to sign him and he could be their opener this season. Shubman Gill was born in Punjab’s Fazilka. There were agricultural properties held by his family. His father, an agriculturalist named Lakhwinder Singh, had aspirations of playing cricket but was unable to realize those ambitions. He chose to develop Gill as a strong cricket player instead. He noticed his son’s cricketing talent at a young age and was excited about the chance to improve it. To help him with his batting practice, he would invite the hired help on the farm to throw balls at Shubman. Gill’s father moved the family to Mohali and rented a home close to the PCA Stadium after becoming confident of his aptitude.
Shubman has been an avid cricket fan since he was three years old, according to Gill’s father. Since he was three years old, he has only ever played cricket. Children at that age would engage in toy play. He never made such a request. For him, it was just a bat and ball. According to Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh, “He used to sleep with a bat and ball.”

Didar Singh Gill is the grandfather of Shubman Gill, whose father Lakhwinder Singh was a farmer. He was born in the village of “Chak There Wala” (also known as Chak Jaimal Singh Wala), which is located close to Jalalabad in the Punjabi district of Fazilka. Shaheen Gill is the name of Shubman Gill’s sister. His father, Lakhwinder, built a cricket field for Gill to train on and a turf pitch for him to play on. He used to challenge village kids to take his son’s wicket and reward them with 100 rupees if they were successful.
Lakhwinder Singh claims that he quit farming in his hometown and relocated to Mohali to turn his son into a professional cricketer. Gill received coaching from his school for a while after his father enrolled him at the academy of the Punjab Cricket Association. Years of Gill’s life were spent in his village. In the community, his father owns a farm. During his boyhood, Gill had the good fortune to play cricket on a farm, where the farmhands would bowl to him. Shubman Gill’s father aspired to play cricket professionally. According to his father, Gill has remained engaged in farming since he was a toddler. Shubman Gill has strong emotional ties to his farm and village. Farmers made up many of his ancestors.
