WHO IS CARDI B.
(Born 1992). Cardi B rose to prominence in the late 2010s with the release of the number-one single “Bodak Yellow” (2017). Elcalis Marlenis Almánzar was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, on October 11, 1992. She was born in Trinidad to an African-Spanish mother and a Dominican father. Growing up, Almánzar spent a lot of time visiting her paternal grandmother in Washington Heights, which she credits for giving her “such a thick accent.” Almánzar grew up in the South Bronx’s Highbridge Neighborhood.
