As the son of politician and film actor Nandamuri Harikrishna and Shalini Bhaskar Rao, Rama Rao was born on May 20, 1983. His mother is a Kannadiga from Kundapur, Karnataka, and his father is of Telugu ancestry. He is the great-grandson of N. T. Rama Rao, a Telugu actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He was originally given the name Tarak, but his grandpa suggested changing it to N. T. Rama Rao.

Rama Rao attended Vidyaranya High School in Hyderabad and St. Mary’s College there to complete his intermediate studies. He has Kuchipudi dance training.

Jr NTR is the nephew of actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, the half-brother of actor and director Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, the cousin of actors Taraka Ratna and Nara Lokesh, and the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu.

N.T. Rama Rao Jr., popularly known as junior ntr and Tarak, is a Telugu film actor, dancer, and television host from India. In 1991, Rama Rao made his acting debut as a young child in the N. T.
